This is the practice of being able to predict the future, normally of an individual person, through mystical or supposedly supernatural means and often for commercial or financial reason’s. It often conflates with the religious practice known as divination.
Common methods used of fortune telling include astromancy, cartomancy a form of fortune telling using cards, tarot card reading, crystallomancy this is the art of reading a crystal sphere, and chiromancy also known as palmistry, it is the reading of the palms. The latter three have traditional associations in the popular mind with the Roma and Sinti people often commonly called "gypsies". Various forms of fortune-telling appear throughout the whole world from different cultures. Typical topics that fortune-tellers will make predictions on include future romantic, financial, and childbearing prospects.
In contemporary Western culture, it appears that women consult fortune-tellers more often than men: some indication of this being the case comes from the profusion of advertisements for commercial fortune-telling services in magazines aimed at women, while such advertisements appear virtually unknown in magazines aimed specifically at men. Telephone consultations with psychics, that are charged to the caller's telephone account at normally very high rates, grew massively in popularity through the 1990s.
The different forms of fortune telling vary in the way they are used for example there are certain forms that are more likely to be used over the phone and others that are more commonly used on a face to face basis such as palmistry (quite obviously as this wouldn’t work if both persons weren’t present. However, although palmistry is a hard art to master there are certain markings and colorings on people palms that can tell a lot about that persons health state. Here are some of the things you need to know when reading peoples palms about colorings, certain lines etc;
- Colorings – really white hands tend to mean the person has a poor circulation problem, where as red hands mean the opposite and the person could suffer from high blood pressure and blue hands could mean the person also suffers from a slow blood circulation problem.
- Different hands – there is a difference between the right and left hand, the theory is that the hand you write with and use most often shows current and future trends where as the hand you use less often (the passive hand) shows your past and childhood situations.
- The different lines – each of the lines on your palm is suppose to have a certain meaning and each stand for different things some examples of the different lines include the heart line; which can’t be reliable to have a time scale of events, the life line; many people may think this means it shows how long you will live that’s not the case it just shows your quality of life, fate lines; these show whether a person is settled in their life, if the line is strong then they are very settled in their life, however, if it is weak then it means they are unsettled in some aspect of their life whether that be at work or in a relationship.
