Chiromancy is the art of characterization and being able to tell the future through the study of the individuals palm, also known as palmistry, palm-reading, chirology or hand analysis. The practice is found all over the world now, and also with numerous cultural variations now in practice. Those who practice chiromancy are generally called chiromancers, palmists, palm readers or chirologists.
Modern palmistry can trace its roots back to Roma fortune tellers and Indian mystics, but often modern palmists combine traditional predictive techniques with a variation of psychology, holistic healing, and alternative methods of divination.
The practice of chiromancy is generally regarded as a pseudoscience, although some studies have been made in medical journals that may give it some validity. Here are some different techniques used within palmistry but it varies from each type of palmistry as to what certain lines and colorings mean;
Techniques
The basic framework for "Classical" palmistry, this being the most widely taught and used form, is rooted in Greek mythology. Each section of the palm and fingers is related to a god or goddess, and the features of that area indicate the nature of the corresponding aspect of the subject. For example, the ring finger is associated with the Greek god Apollo; characteristics of the ring finger are tied to the subject's artistic characteristics.
Hand Shape & Character
The one who hears of chirology or palmistry mostly thinks of lines. Therefore it may be very surprising, that it all begins by analyzing the actual shape of the hand. It tells about the constitution and the temperament of the individual. Sometimes it is more difficult to interpret it than to read the lines on the palm. It requires a lot of experience and hand analysts often tried to find an appropriate system of classification. The breadth and the length of the hand gives us a first and important indication. There are also different types of hand stereotyped in the world of palmistry.
The fire hand has striking edges. It makes a muscular tensed impression of the person. The thumb is big and its mount full developed. The strong fingers mostly spread themselves to the top. The lines of this type of hand are very similar to the earth hand. Often several deep sharp lines rise up from the root of the hand to the fingers. This all speaks for a strong will power. The person prefers to work independently, because they like to have their own tempo.
The water hand is to be found mainly on women. Sometimes it is smaller, narrower and more finely built than the other hands. Its delicate and soft skin reveals much more permeability against the impressions of the surrounding. It reacts very sensitively to this factor. The main features of the shape are the rounded courses of the lines, specially the head line, that bends down to the mount of Moon.
The air hand isn’t very broad or big. Beside the slender palm, the fine, long fingers stand out, the knuckles hardly stand out. The fine and numerous lines show a differentiated picture. They mark a person that had a life with a lot of events and experiences. This kind of hand points to a refined, nervous person and to an aesthetic or spiritual level of thought.
On base of these patterns it is easy to determine the dominant element and temperament in your hand.
